Should I get a 525gb m.2 sata ssd or a 250gb m.2 pcie sad. Which is better speed or capacity.

depends upon your workload. If you're with professional Video Editing or any other pro workflows, go for NVMe based drives. Otherwise SATA based is fine.

does your motherboard have an m.2 slot ? if not is it worth getting an expanion card ? 

sata ssd runs fine 400+ read/writes 

m.2 will yield reads in excess of 2000+

Go for the SATA SSD. NVMe isn't really worth it for most use cases, and more storage is beneficial.

If you were going to spend more and the size was the same, or they were both 1TB drives, it'd be a different story.

M.2 has nothing to do with speed, it's a connection type...

yeah and that connection type gives you much greater read write speeds .......

No, it doesn't. NVME gives you much greater speeds. M.2 can also be SATA, which is exactly the same as a regular SATA SSD.
