I recently wired my house with cat5e cable and i want to have 7 of 12 cables hooked up currently. I only have 4 ports on my router. What switch should I purchase for this kind of set up? I was thinking of getting a 16 port netgear switch (FS116). I also want to get a Synology NAS 4bay in the near future for all my family's photos and videos in a central location with redundancy.

My ISP isn't great at the time but fiber might be coming to my area in a couple years. Should I kinda plan for the future that way as well? Maybe get hardware ready for faster internet? Let me know what you think would be best. Thanks

I would get a gigabit switch since then you can do computer to computer / computer to NAS transfers at higher speeds. It wont help your current internet but at least you can do stuff inside the home. Then like you said if you get fiber down the line then it will help make sure your computers take more advantage of the speed.

Plus they are not that much more for so few ports.
