Hello, I want to start my own youtube channel, but I have concerns about copyrights

I have read a lot about copyrights on youtube's help page, but I still have some questions!

can I refer to other youtubers channels/videos? for example: can I play 10 seconds of a video, than suggest people to watch it?

fonts copyright?

If you have any info, please provide the links

Referring other youtubers is fine, as long as you credit.

For fonts, I would use http://dafont.com. They have some paid fonts, but some are free! Note: If you plan to monetize your videos, it counts as commercial use. Have fun!

As long as you don’t play Nintendo games in any vids, use copywrited music, post other people’s content or don’t credit people, you should be fine. Look at ‘reaction’ channels like jinx reloaded. They manage fine by just putting their faces in the corner of other youtubers videos.

I want to play other people’s content, but as a recommendation, with the link to their channels, 10 seconds for example!

not in every video just when needed!

so they have the ability, but you think no one will do it?

Why would they, free advertising. You’d have to be real dumb to stop that.

If you ever use footage from Nintendo products make sure to get footage from both Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Japan.

That way YouTube cancels out the copyright strikes and Nintendo doesn't get money :P.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Copyright law allows you to:

  • Transform a video/produce an entirely new video based off of an existing work. E.g. A reactionary video critiquing something.
  • Review, parody, make fun of, or discuss or use content from an existing work.

You may not display the entirety of the work. So long as you use a limited part of that video you'll be fine.

The idea is you're not supposed to replace the market for that video, you're not supposed to leach off of it. You need original input.

Technically, recording gameplay footage with no original input is copyright violation even if it is not legally challenged by a Plaintiff in the court of law.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.
