Hi,

I recently got a  G-SYNC monitor and under the control panel in the NIVIDIA settings under 3D settings, the vertical option does not have G-SYNC as an option, any idea why? I'm using a 1080ti and displayport for the monitor! I'm new to this so if i'm missing something obvious i'm sorry! Thanks.

You can also check the in-monitor setting and make sure there isn't an enable/disable. I think one of my monitors has that option.

Also under your monitor settings for vertical sync, does it say "off" or "G-SYNC"

G-Sync is not under the Vertical Sync setting anymore, it was moved quite some time ago:

Ok, It shows up there, should V-SYNC be disabled in the control panel then?

Depends if u enable it.

It will prevent your fps to goes above your monitor refresh rate.

I personally " if i own g-sync monitor" would limit my fps below the maximum display refresh rate with Riva or in game limiter (work better)

Set it however you want, it controls whether V-Sync is used when your framerate is beyond the refresh rate of the monitor, where G-Sync doesn't function.

Even thought G-SYNC is enabled, I still notice screen tearing when it hits low FPS, any ideas why? It's a 144hz monitor, so i don't think refresh rate is really the issue.

There are G-sync range in every monitor for example 30-144hz so if your fps dropped below 30 or goes beyond G-sync range then u'll get tearing

Minimum physical ranges don't affect G-Sync operation, it uses frame duplication to maintain the effect below the physical limit. All G-Sync monitors work between 0 Hz and the maximum range.

Its just duplicating the frames.

No, because it still remains in sync with the GPU output, so the G-Sync effect is maintained.

(Note that this video is outdated, so the information applies to both G-Sync and FreeSync now)

Does Free-sync do the same frame duplication thingy?

I get it now so when the fps is above the range g-sync duplicate each frames to maintain the fps to keep the G-sync active to remove tearing?

But when that happen it wont as smooth as when the fps is in range right?

Yes, FreeSync does the same thing as long as the maximum range is at least 2x the minimum range.

Duplicating frames is invisible to the user, it is visually identical to when it's doing single frames. Same as you can't tell the difference between 60 fps and 1 fps if you are looking at a still image. Multiple repeats of a frame looks exactly the same as one long frame.
