1060 vs 580?

iechowulf

So, GTX 1060 3gb/6gb Vs RX 580 4gb/8gb.
Which card takes my money? YOU DECIDE! Lool but honestly, tryna decide between these two cards. What do you guys think here? Honestly for me im a bit of a VRAM anxious person i feel like the more VRAM the more comfortable and stuff ill feel about my performance expectations but thats just me. My budget is $250-$300 and im trying to decide which card to buy. Also if i can hit below 250 that will also be a huge plus. But max $300. Help me out here, if you have another third option that is better and fits that range let me know! Thank you!

Last time I checked (a long time ago), the 1060 and 580 were neck in neck depending on whether you play dx12 or dx11 games but that the rx 580 was marginally better in more ways than the 1060 was marginally better than the 580. So if you can get an rx580 8gb for <$300, then I would get that. BUT, I haven't kept up with GPUs recently, so wait for someone else to comment about this before you take this recommendation seriously.

RX 580 mostly for free-sync savings.

Thanks for the input so far, Looking at price comparisons currently. Im definitely getting one of these two, but really stuck on determining which one and which VRAM size

4GB or 6GB, depending on which card you get.

The VRAM really isn't that big a factor past 4gbs, it's just nice to have the 8GB 580 if you find one for a good price

1060 6gb out of the match here. Not as great value as 1060 3gb, expensive adaptive sync monitor when compared with 580.

Okay, so GTX 1060 3gb is the way to go UNLESS i want to get the 580 in order to save on adaptive sync monitors.
I think im fine monitor wise so i may lean for the 3gb 1060. Thank you so much guys, also ill consider getting a used 1070. Will look into it!

if the 580 costs alot more than the 1060 6gb then get the 1060 6gb unless you want freesync support, otherwise get the 580.

see if the 570 4gb is similar in price first, performs the same but has the extra 1gb of vram and freesync.

No one should be buying the 3GB 1060, it's just a bit too limiting IMO, going to need replacement more quickly

Most likely just get an RX 580 of some kind if you're looking at US pricing.

I'd take the GTX 1060 3gb. It's like 10% slower than the RX 580 4gb, but it costs like $70 less from what I can see. That's the value for the money option. Otherwise just go all out for an RX 580 8gb.

i would not buy a 3GB GPU at this point.

I would go 580 for more “future proofing”. GCN ages better and future games are starting to use more DX12. The 4GB is a good value, but 8GB comes with the faster VRAM out of the box

according to this video (admitedly joker is on AMD side and the GTX 1060 is a founders edition POS, so maybe add a few FPS to the 1060 here and there) but the RX 580 8GB is still faster in most games so personally if they cost say within 30 to 50$ for a similar model i'd rather go with a 580 8GB at this point!

580, special version like Red Devil and so on, they have good decent factory overclocks which makes them faster in most of the games compared to 1060, but then again, you need to think if you are willing to pay a bit more.

apparently you never experience AMD driver crashes, couldn't run BF1 for 3months after launch cause of an AMD driver issue
