So, i have a noob issue that confuse me on many levels :D I am finaly building ( acctualy piece-by-piece) new PC (from used parts :/ ) to upgrade from old one(775/e6850/4gb/gtx260) and building desk to fit things inside, there I came to subject that bothers me . I bought a Asus Maximus Ranger VIII , i bought RAM   Apacer DDR4 16GB 2400MHz , GPU Asus 7970 directCU II (it was like 70eur...) ,and no CPU...on Asus website it states that MOBO is compatible with i3 8100 but all around forums i read that is not...somewhere says it is , somewhere its not...confusion is high. As far I understand i3 8100 is z370 and my MOBO is z170 ...and the arangment of the pins in socket is diferent so its not backward compatible with z170, but i really dont want to blow 200+ eur on CPU that i cant use or have to bother with reseling later on, so i have to ask kind Gods of LTT to help me . Sorry for bad English , rusty af.

BTW if someone has some 600w PSU to spare ...send it my way :D

Thanks for quick answer, now i have some things cleared away  ! And apparently i have read the list bad...although i could swear i saw i3 8100 there...my brain is playing with me  after all that sanding of MDF and coffee :D

Mobo : 90 eur (in box with all accesories included)
GPU : 70 eur ( in box with all accesories included)
RAm : its expensive here in Serbia...really its forest fire going through wallet ...16 gb for 240 eur. Tested all 3 working like charm with friends CPU (its Pentium ...dont remember which one)

Parts here are really expensive, due to high % going to state...thats why i go for used parts. Going for AIO for GPU and CPU (ID-Cooling HUNTER DUET)  since custom water loop would cost like a decent car here...(like bmw 320d :D
