Hey guys!

I had a question on what PSU I should buy. I've done a bit of research and seen that corsair psu's are very popular so i was looking at their stuff. Not sure how much wattage I need, some say 700 but I'm not sure, seems a bit too much. My currency is USD and Microcenter or Newegg would be preferred but other places are fine.

Thank You in advance for your help.

Specs

CPU:AMD FX 8320

Mother Board:  ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0

GPU: Planning on buying a 280x or gtx 770 (not sure yet)

RAM: 2 4gig ram sticks

I'd get a 600W PSU, it's more than enough.

I'm more of a fan of Seasonic PSUs, I suggest you look at their PSUs as well.

A good 550w would be plenty.

The Rosewill Hive has nice cables and fits with just about any theme you might want to go with: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/rosewill-power-supply-hive550

No, not the Hive. Go for a Seasonic

Quote from AnandTech:

The power supply uses a well known layout from Sirtec, and it's a cheaper design. The PSU is nothing special, corresponding to what we have seen in many other models. The EMI filtering is well equipped, and a varistor in the entrance is a good idea. All cables should be protected with heatshrinks, and while some of them are we would like to see the others protected as well. The relatively low-end Teapo capacitors on the secondary side are acceptable for a PSU in this range, while the fan is pretty low-end as well. Rosewill promised to use a Japanese main capacitor but this time they used Teapo.

As our test shows, the power supply can provide the rated output without any complications. The efficiency at 5% could be somewhat higher, but few will notice the loss of a few extra watts. The voltage regulation on our crossload test 1 (+3.20% at +5V) could also be better, but all results are still within ATX specification. The ripple and noise voltage is always low on +5V and +3.3V, and the power factor is high at all loads and input voltages.

All in all, the Rosewill Hive 550W is a decent mainstream PSU. It doesn't have any special features beyond respectable voltage quality and a remarkable case design. The Hive's strongest competition comes from XFX. The Core Edition PRO550W comes with Japanese capacitors but without modular cables. Furthermore Seasonic offers a very good PSU with 520W (M12II 520 Bronze) which is probably the best solution in this price range. Seasonic provides Japanese capacitors and modular connectors. However, the modular Rosewill Hive 550W is still an attractive offer when money is tight.

I never said it was a great psu. It seems like I might have implied it though.

Yes, it's not the best but it does the job while looking sleek with nice cables at a decent price.

Buy a PSU from a brand you trust (Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone) with 500-600W and your golden.

Yep agree with everyone.  Also corsair and xfx use seasonic PSUs, so that can give you a little idea of whats good =D

If price isn't really an issue, get a Seasonic 550 G.

I have a similar system to yours and ended up with a Corsair CX750M. Cheap ish, powerful and part modular.

You don't need a 750 but it gives you the option to run dual cards later on.

I had a Corsair CX400 before and it never gave me a day of trouble in three years running an overclocked Core 2 Duo and a GTX460.

Nothing to see here - move along.

I guess that I will get the Corsair CX 600. Thank you everyone for your help.

the CX600 is not a good PSU. Don't get it... it's one of the cheapest built PSU you can buy. I'd rather buy something from Coolmax or Diablotek.
