I've got about $40 left in my budget and am willing to spend $50 at the most on an aftermarket cooler. Any suggestions for my R5 1600?

I've heard good things about the Noctua NH-D15(just get different fans for it) or the bequiet! Dark Rock /Shadow Rock series

The NH-D15 is minimum $80 so rip his budget

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

Have you tried with stock yet? And if so, what is the primary reason for getting aftermarket? I would recommend saving some more and getting quality midrange cooler rather than going for budget when you already have stock cooler.

No, My plan is to stick with the stock. But I was asking incase anyone had any ideas that I would consider when I upgrade later on.

You can straight forget budget options. Scythe Fuma is good one, if you need performance and don't care noise that much. Beyong that, Cryorig, CM, Noctua and be Quiet midrange cooler (H5, DR3, MasterAir something and U12S/U14S) are ones to look for.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=1DR-003S-00004 fits squarely into your budget and performs on par with 240mm AIOs.

if the upgrade kit isn't included then order one from reeven.

Scythe FUMA Rev.B or Thermalright Macho Rev.B.

The FUMA outperforms any air cooler on the market when mounted properly.

The Macho is just as good as the NH-D15 and it's more quiet.

Any reviews to back these? Or just your opinions?

I have a Cryorig H7 and a Noctua NH-U12S.  The H7 only has 3 heat pipes and can't keep up with the Noctua.  The cooler master 612 v2 has 6 heat pipes and is $35 on Amazon right now.  If you can't fit something like that in your case then you might be able to find a MasterLiquid 240 Lite on sale.  I have been seeing them from $39-49 on sale off and on all season.  I have one and cools nicely even with stock fans.  I replaced the fans with slower more quiet Noctua's and still cools great.

Try the stock Wraith Spire first. It'll get an R5 1600 to 3.7-3.8 GHz with no thermal issues. If that doesn't work, the Cryorig H7 and Deepcool Gammaxx 400 are good, cheap options. The Cryorig H5, which I'm using with my R7 1700, is the top of your budget, but it's overkill if your case and mobo can handle it, and will run damn near silent.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
