Hello, I have just received my parts for a new build and have a major problem. My AIO cooler (Kraken x62 280mm) doesn't seem to cook the CPU. I have it connected to the Asus z370-f board in the CPU_opt socket. When I boot the PC up the screen comes on and says "CPU fan error".  I press F1 to go into the BIOS to see the CPU temp rise one by one up until 80 degrees. I turn the PC off then to let it cool. Any ideas why it doesn't cool?

Try plugging the pump into the CPU_FAN header and seeing if it'll boot. Either way, there's a chance your pump is dead.

The AIO is brand new.. what's the chance of it being dead? Also I can hear water flowing through the pipe when I turn it on...

I've seen a ton of Kraken X62 pump failures, even DOA ones. I'm not calling it as a dead pump, just saying there's a possibility as it seems to be somewhat common on X62s. Again, try plugging the pump into the CPU_FAN header and see what happens.

There's no difference when I plug it into the Cpu_FAN. The temps rise 1 degrees every 2 or so seconds...

Can you feel any vibrations on the pump head?

No vibrations... This time when I booted it up I didn't hear any liquid come through... It also stopped giving a "CPU fan error"

Sounds like it might be a dead pump. Do you have another cooler of any kind that you can test to rule out a faulty fan header?

An old stock Intel one, yeah.

See what happens if you use that instead of the X62. If it behaves the same, it might be a problem with the board.

Also one question... The x62 has a 3pin connector and all the headers look like they are 4 pin. Does that matter?

Idk, everything seems to run fine... Just the temps are rising..

At idle? Might be a problem with thermal compound. Or Intel's bad stock TIM under the CPU's IHS

Changing the thermal compound helped a bit. The stock Intel cooler is at 70 degrees and slowly rising at this point while idle... Still not very good

You might have to delid and replace the stock TIM, or on-die cool it.

RIP. All I can really say is delid and hope for the best. On-die cooling would also be something to try, just make sure your thermal compound isn't conductive.

Ffs anyways thanks for your help.

Sounds to me like improper mounting pressure since the temperature should definitely not be so high during idle. If you could post some photos of what your thermal compund looks like before putting on the cooler, and after removing the cooler (both on the CPU IHS as well as the CPU cooler) perhaps this could help us determine if all is okay or not.

Im pręty sure i resolved the issue. The coolers pump is either broken or too weak... I need some good cooler recommendations now.. will be returning this one.
