If the CPU is known to be compatible with that board then maybe. Attach a picture of the CPU and maybe I can tell you better.

I really doubt a nick that small to the head spreader would impact the function of the chip, however if it was caused by a severe force (like dropping the CPU) then it may have simultaneously caused damage inside. I assume all the pins are present and not bent?

What is the motherboard model number and what is the 5-digit CPU model number? (usually printed just before the manufacture location)

I wouldn't worry about the small force, as long as you don't feel you have to force it in. I can't quite make out the model number from that picture... Does the heatsink sit crooked on top of that area where the nick has bent the metal up?

Definitely a nice upgrade. I'm having no luck with that Motherboard model number, but the FSB difference may come into play.

If your chipset supports 800MHz memory, this could possibly solve your problem. The fact that the motherboard produces the same symptoms with no CPU isn't very encouraging.

Looks to be chipset 845D. Checking compatibility.

As far as I can see, the Intel 845 chipset series runs a 400MHz front side bus, with support for 533MHz FSB CPUs on most variants. The 800MHz FSB on your CPU is not supported on this chipset, which is why it's acting as though no processor is present. Sorry :/

No any one who could make bios support it with custom bios ?
