I just opened case and removed one 400gb HDD and rearranged some fan cables. I left HDD cables attached to mobo since I'll add 2tb drive in there next year. After boot I get screen saying it can't boot to windows and asks to load optimized settings. I figure it has messed boot order because one drive is missing, though OS is on SSD. So I load optimized settings and boot to windows. After this I return to BIOS to change some "easy" settings like boot order, disable some mobo features etc. Save & reboot and again screen saying I must load optimized settings. So I do and redo everything I just did. I leave boot & SATA options as is but still I get screen asking to load optimized settings. So now I'm confused whats causing this. Running on default settings right now so everything is working OK.

I'm thinking I might have hit Dual BIOS switches and they are causing this. Or there's something pushing on Clear CMOS button. But I´'d like to hear thoughts in case those aren't the problem. Everything worked fine yesterday.

System (Full in profile)

OS: Win 7 Home Premium 64

SSD: Kingston HyperX 3K

Mobo: Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H

CPU: 4770K stock

RAM 2x4gb G.Skill RipjawX 2133MHz (running 1600MHz)

Go back into your BIOS and change one thing at a time. If it doesn't allow you to change anything and gives you the same issue try resetting to factory default settings and changing one thing at a time until you find what is causing the issue.

I'm not an audiophile, I'm just really picky about my music... and my headphones... and my speakers... and my microphone. Other than that, I'm totally not an audiophile.

Thats one thing that was in my mind. Its gonna take long but if that helps to solve this then I'm ok with it.

You could also try updating your Bios.

There was an update for your board on 08/05/2013 if that helps.

I have that one already. Had to flash it immediedly after install because fan headers didn't work properly.

It seems that your bios settings are either not being saved or corrupted. Have you tried changing the CMOS battery or leaving it out for a bit and putting it back in?

I didn't read the original issue thinking that the settings weren't saving, but this is definitely a possible cause.

Thanks for this. Will be one thing I'll try tomorrow.

It was the dual bios switches. I did clear CMOS just in case too. There's two switches on board. One selecting between main and secondary BIOS and other to select between single and dual BIOS. For some reason using main BIOS in single mode gave that error where it wouldn't save any settings. All working now :)
