Good purchase?

hey guys im upgrading from i7 6700 to i7 8700k, just ordered the cpu from overclockers and i got my new z370 motherboard the other day so excited but did i make the right decision?

I play alot of vr and thinking of doing some recording/editing also ive paired it with my gtx 1070

Yeah, there's no real speed difference between higher clocked ram in reality, you'd be fine on 2400mhz. Linus proved this in one of his videos.

Are you re-purposing the 6700? Are you planning to OC the 8700K? If not, everything I've read says that upgrade isn't worth the price for gaming or VR. The additional cores will help with the editing but it sounds like you're using the possibility of editing as a justification for the purchase.

 

Who cares if it was worth it? You did it and it probably felt good. Enjoy it!

if you already have the ram, ya, it'll work, im gonna guess the diff btwn 2400 and 3200mhz is about 2-3% in actual difference, as for 6700k->8700k, it's at least good for 3 years, and a huge upgrade if u overclock.
