Hello to who ever is reading this post, glad you clicked because booooooyyyyyy do I need help. From when I first got into pcs cpus where never a big concern of mine, if I ever wasn't achieving the fps I wanted I just slapped a new GPU in.

Recently I came across a deal I COULD NOT PASS, it was a 1080 so ridiculously cheap that I sold my 980ti that day to buy it. Anyway I've decided with the recent purchase to completely overhaul my pc not only for performance but for aesthetics too, as originally I only cared about the performance not the way it looked. Currently the 1080 is paired with an i7 2600 which isn't necessarily a bad CPU by any means I want to upgrade, the motherboards for it are so outdated there are none that look nice as well. So what CPU + MOBO combo would be best for me? I'm looking for DDR4 ram and a beautiful motherboard but I don't wanna destroy the bank so price for performance is still key but any ideas/replies would be great. Oh and if this is allowed recommended pc cases.

TL:DR - I have a 1080 with a i7 2600, want to upgrade CPU + Mobo for performance and aesthetics, recommendations please.

Don't have a budget really can buy what ever just doing it bit by bit. Ram prices arent really a worry probably gonna stick with just 8GB for a while which I can get for like $50-90 AUD (our prices are ridiculous as is)

Dont upgrade bit by bit when your current setup is still fine. New tech might come out when you are doing so.

Sorry let me elaborate, By bit by bit I mean with a month or two. But if you think that is better I may.

You could go for a Coffee Lake CPU (I5 or I7) then for example an Asrock Fatal1ty Z370 K6 (the pro has 10 gbit internet and wireless which imho isn't feasable in most households and so one can safe some bucks going with the K6 one) or a Taichi/Extreme in choice for colors.

Else if you got a I7 2600K right now and are able to overclock, don't go for less than coffee lake, because your performance gains won't be that much compared to a move over to coffee lake.

Oh just saw it, my post didn'T went through the first time so here it is again.

Main System:

Anghammarad : Asrock Taichi x570, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @4900 MHz. 32 GB DDR4 3600, some NVME SSDs, Gainward Phoenix RTX 3070TI

System 2 "Igluna" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

System 3 "Inskah" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

On the Road: Acer Aspire 5 Model A515-51G-54FD, Intel Core i5 7200U, 8 GB DDR4 Ram, 120 GB SSD, 1 TB SSD, Intel CPU GFX and Nvidia MX 150, Full HD IPS display

Media System "Vio": Aorus Elite AX V2, Ryzen 7 5700X, 64 GB Ram DDR4 3200 Mushkin, 1 275 GB Crucial MX SSD, 1 tb Crucial MX500 SSD. IBM 5015 Megaraid, 4 Seagate Ironwolf 4TB HDD in raid 5, 4 WD RED 4 tb in another Raid 5, Gainward Phoenix GTX 1060

(Abit Fatal1ty FP9 IN SLI, C2Duo E8400, 6 GB Ram DDR2 800, far too less diskspace, Gainward Phantom 560 GTX broken need fixing)

Nostalgia: Amiga 1200, Tower Build, CPU/FPU/MMU 68EC020, 68030, 68882 @50 Mhz, 10 MByte ram (2 MB Chip, 8 MB Fast), Fast SCSI II, 2 CDRoms, 2 1 GB SCSI II IBM Harddrives, 512 MB Quantum Lightning HDD, self soldered Sync changer to attach VGA displays, WLAN

Intel and AMD are unlikley to release new tech for awhile as Ryzen and Threadripper (For AMD) and Kaby Lake and Coffe Lake (For Intel) were released this year.

You might be able to snag a bargain or two over christmas and new year, although RAM prices may not come down for awhile.

I personally don't trust MSI Boards... and in the recent days lots of people asking for help had a misfunctioning MSI board here.

MY personal choice would be the fatal1ty z370 K6, with an I5 K cpu (I think its the 8400k) and some ADATA Ram... ADATA isn't that much bling but price/performance/compatibility wise they are top notch.

It would but that CPU is like $570 (new) so you'd want it to last.
