Upgrading my PC

Hey everyone!

 

I'm considering a big upgrade from my R9 270 to a GTX 1080. My only concern is that GPU performance might be bottle-necked by processor.

I have an i7-3770 running at 3.40GHz and I'm not quite sure how it'll affect the performance if I upgrade.

 

Would it make a significant impact if I didn't upgrade? Should I try and upgrade both?

Nope.  An i7, even a 3rd gen one, should be fine with a 1080.

Going from a 270 to a 1080 will be a massive upgrade.

It's likely the cpu will bottleneck in a few modern games but if you don't have the money right now to upgrade the cpu as well, it's fine.

There's still some life left in it so i wouldn't worry for now

You'll be getting a performance upgrade regardless. Depending on the game there may be a slight performance degradation compared to say the GPU paired up with an i7-7700K, but it won't be anything to lose sleep over.
