The motherboard of my computer supports SPDIF output through connectors on the motherboard, I assume I will need to buy a device that connects to that but I don’t know of anything that would connect to it aside from a sound card with the port. I only want the SPDIF output and not everything else that comes on a sound card. Is there a card that only offers an SPDIF port or will I need to buy a sound card. Also give me recommendations on one if possible.

should be on mobo black/grey square port hole , google spdif cable , then connect to amp etc.

There is no port on the mobo, there is a connector on the inside where I can connect an SPDIF output device. So I imagine I would need to connect something with that port to the internal connector.

I'm pretty sure that the OP means that the motherboard has a SPDIF/TOSLINK -header- on the motherboard.

Something like that would be necessary.  Depending of course on the specifics of the motherboard.

Would it be better for me to just buy a sound card, or is the part you suggested of good quality, both build wise and audio quality.

An SPDIF or TOSLINK adaptor is a pretty stupid thing.  Keep in mind that ALL the work is being done by the motherboard's onboard audio chip, the adaptor is simply connecting to the motherboard header that's sending a signal and allowing it to then connect to external devices.

If you ONLY want TOSLINK or SPDIF output just get the header bracket.  TOSLINK is literally 35 years old and SPDIF isn't much younger.  These are technologies that have been mostly 'mastered' (And some would argue rendered obsolete by HDMI) so you don't need a fancy discrete soundcard just to gain SPDIF support.

Alright, I’m looking into getting the Siberia 800 headset for my pc and I want the 7.1 surround sound that the usb connection doesn’t offer.
