SATA cables question.

I have ordered an SSD. It is the WD Green 120GB. I didn't have any spare SATA cables so I scavenged one out of an old pc that is obsolete. (It has a 40GB HDD)  Will the cables support SATA 3 if they were made before SATA 3 was a thing?

 

Also does it even matter since its only 550MB/s read and 450MB/s write.

until it doesn't look like a self soldered together piece of art, you'll be fine using that =)

Yes it will work just fine. SATA data cable is just SATA data cable. There are no versions for cables.

Sata 2 cables can cause problems when used on sata 3 devices.

I would in this case say it isn't the fault of being a "sata 2" cable, but crappy build/quality. The same is true for ethernet cables... you can go gigabit with cat 5, if it is a good cable and not too long, and with other cat 5 certified cables you get a max 10 mbit handshake... 

 

It really depends on the quality of the cable, shielding etc. I still use 1st gen SATA cables I got with a socket 775 board which had AGP and PCIE and still use it and never had any problems even with recent SSD.

 

This is due to the fact that SATA still is SATA, the connectors and wiring hasn't changed...

You do realize that the first link confirms that there is no difference? :D
