I bought a Ryzen 5 1500x instead of the 1600 for the higher clock speeds, except I cannot even hit 3.9 ghz at 1.4v. Every time I start a stress test or even open a game it crashes. Have I just lost the silicon lottery or am I doing something wrong?

Ryzen 5 1500x is further down the stack. Asking for 3.9 ghz might be beyond the chip. Dimitri from Hardware Canucks had to settle for 3.9 ghz on a 1700x. Have you tried adjusting your LLC?

This may sound dumb, except what is LLC

That's a totally okay question. I'm definitely still learning everyday. LLC, also known as load line calibration is a setting that adjusts voltage delivery to the CPU. Hence, the load line. The line represents the fall off in voltage the CPU will experience as load increases. This is done to preserve hardware and prevent over volting components. However, when pushing overclocks- default settings might drop the voltage too much under load causing a crash.

Thanks a bunch for the help dude, apparently overclocking to 3.9 and above is a steep slope and I would probably have to dramatically increase the voltage for it to be stable. I think I will end up using it at 3.8@ 1.35v which I can easily hit.
