Of course not... just keep it as is until next generation Ampere, a 1080 is a lot of power... I mean really how isn't it enough? what display do you have?

A lot of games don't support SLI anymore, so it's pretty much dead. I have a friend that has a 1080 SLI in his rig, I forget his reason for doing that though...

As someone whit 1080 SLI, Id try and sell your current 1080 and get a 1080ti instead. There are a few games that benefit from is, however most don't really get beneficial performance bump.

and in reference to @Princess Cadence question about resolution, I'm running at 4k 60hz. I can come close to hitting that in almost all games with high settings and mo aa. My second card was only purchased for crypto mining.

this seems to be said a lot, I have 2x 1080ti's and actually most "blockbuster" games actually support sli, they just don't have great performance scaling, they are actually using both gpu's. the new task manager update makes it super easy to monitor it by alt tab-ing. the only game I can remember in the past few years not actually using my second gpu is infinite warfare. bo3, ww2, battlefield, pubg, just about everything actually uses both my gpus these days.

I would do it if you need it. I only did it to play bf1 in surround. As a single card still can't do it. As no other game aside from bf stuff natively support surround, that I play.

If you have the time and money to get a ti, just got for it and don't give your hopes up.

If you don't mind having to tinker from time to time and/or play with just a single GPU in a few games, then yes, go for it. Two 1080's is faster than a 1080Ti.

Will a 750W enough for SLI and a i7-7700K 5GHz

Yes. My 4.2GHz 5820k and stock SLI 1080Ti system draws 780w from the wall with the CPU under full load and both GPUs under full load. The 1080 draws 70w less than a 1080Ti under full load, so you should be landing around 640w with your CPU and both GPUs maxed out.

I wouldn't bother. It would be better to go the next gen xx80ti card since you'll get lots more for your money. The only situation where I would consider upgrading is 4k60fps, where the 1080ti is better suited.

Upgrading to a 1080ti would be a better option but that throwing money in the toilet IMO. Wait for the next gens from both AyyMD and NGreedia

That's an F in the profile pic

The majority of the people that naysay SLI around here are people who currently don't own a SLI setup and simply parrot outdated and flawed information.

I think you need a bigger psu, your pulling 780w w/a psu rated for 750...

I've noticed when I close any program both gpu's spike to 100% for a few seconds. weird.

Yeah, it's on my to-do list. I'm not terribly worried about it at the moment though, since I never have both of my GPUs and my CPUs at full load at the same time ever. Also, undervolting my cards drops their power consumption down by about 70-75w each, leaving me well under the 750w rating. Thank you for the concern though :)

Don't forget to add however many fans you plan to put in your case.  You also mentioned that you want to overclock everything.. so plan for a liquid cooling solution for the CPU at the very least.  I run the 7700k at 4.8 and my H100i v2 works well.  You are probably going to want to delid your 7700k.. though.

My setup is:

  • CPU
    I7 7700k @ 4.8Ghz - Delidded as of last week.
  • Motherboard
    Z270 Maximus IX CODE
  • RAM
    32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB @ 3466
  • GPU
    (2) MSI Seahawk 1080 in SLI
  • Case
    CORSAIR CRYSTAL 570
  • Storage
    (2) Samsung Evo 850 500GB,

  • PSU

  • 2 weeks later...

If you can get both 1080's to try on 1080. I couldn't  get one to work. Which is why I use two on surround or one on 1440.
