I mean is the screen outdated? Do I need to buy a better monitor for games? Will my gpu have better quality video with another monitor?

It's a decent 1080p IPS monitor with good color reproduction, it's not a strictly "gaming" monitor but you can game just fine on it.

Whether it's enough - it's up to you, but that GPU can't maintain good framerates on higher resolution monitors so with a monitor upgrade, you'd need a new GPU too.

I have an even older DELL UltraSharp U2711 (2560x1440, 27") and it's amazing, the colors and viewing angles are great so games look damn good on it. I wouldn't buy another monitor in your case unless you wanted to go with a higher resolution one (like 1440p) and use your current one as a secondary display, but as I said, you'd need a new GPU too for 1440p.

You can, but I don't recommend it. Some games won't perform as well on a 1050ti at 1440. Check popular benchmarks for your game with that GPU online. It will work with most games, but probably not the newest games. I'd say you can upgrade, but I personally don't think you need to. I was using a 1080p monitor for a while, and I only upgraded to 4k for photography and video editing. I care more about refresh rate than resolution when it comes to gaming, so 1080p does it for me.

need best cpu cooling? add 2 stroke oil (but no, really don't)

You can, but the performance will be less-than-satisfying. It's a decent 1080p card for Medium/High settings but to get AAA games to run at High/Ultra @60FPS @1440p you need at least a Vega 56, GTX 980Ti or a GTX 1070.

Have a look here:

source: http://www.pcgamer.com/gtx-1050-ti-review/
In 15 recent games, a 1050Ti managed an average framerate of 29.5 with an average minimum being around 22FPS. It's just not an enjoyable experience so you just need something more powerful for that resolution as it's a lot more demanding than regular 1080p.

Your graphics card already have some issue on certain GPU intensive games even on 1080p. It is not recommended go for 1440p unless you don't play games or don't might set games in low graphics and still might not smooth.

Your current monitor 1080p is well suite for your 1050ti.

They is no wrong with this monitor beside the respond time slight higher at 8ms where now most is 6ms or 5ms for IPS.  It is not current design slim bezel look and slight old and no longer sell in Dell website but beside that, it still a gorgeous good monitor.
