Black border arrived with ssd

Matthew Waring

I bought an ssd and it has come delivered with a black border that has adhesive on the back. What is this used for?

My guess is that it'd be used in laptops, where there's a little more clearance for the laptop's own spacer to go in.

If you're asking if you need it in either a desktop or a laptop, no. In a laptop, you could likely reuse the spacer the hard drive in the laptop is contained in.

it's used as a spacer in some laptops so the ssd isn't sitting directly on the chassis, and will allow easier connection to the sata cables
