Need help blocking URLs/Connections

Go to solution Solved by AllHokage,

EDIT: Found a feature on my router to block the URLs/Connections.

I need to block certain URLs/Connections for my PS3 system only, people have been recommending proxy software to do this, however, I'd rather just do it via my router.

So my question is, would the parental controls section in my router block these connections/URLs on my PS3? Or would I need software or another method to do this.

My router is the Technicolor tg799vac.

Might add this later...

I don't have experience with that router but I can say some do have the functionality to block websites based on URL or IP address. The PS3 I know has an option to put a password (four digit number) on the browser in the event you decide to just lock it outright. Only other thing I can think of is a proxy PC with DNS filtering but then the PS3 would have to be hardwired into the PC OR you'd have to manually set the DNS filter pc as the DNS server in the PS3 and you'd have to set it up to forward all traffic...way too complicated.

Why would you want to filter it anyways? If it's to protect kids all they have to do is reach for their phone or nearest computer so...

It's to block certain PlayStation network features, so I can run backups of my games.

Even so you'd have to know what these URLs and IP addresses are. Unless you're packet sniffing your own network and tracking the source addresses for the play station services.

I can't really help. Perhaps build a DNS server and enable filtering, add the addresses to deny then manually set the PS3 DNS to the IP of the server you built. There's most likely an easier way but I don't know it.

I already got all the addresses I need to block.

I heard most routers have a built-in feature to block connections, however, mine is pretty bad and only has a parental control feature to block sites. So I'm wondering if that will do the job or not. Otherwise, I'll have to take a more complicated method.

But I appreciate the help, hopefully, someone with the same router can help me out.
