Same windows on 2 computers?

Frosty!

Hi,

I just cloned my windows 10 from a 750EVO to a 850EVO

now my question is can i run a different computer with the same OS from my old 750EVO?

Or do I have to delete my whole 750EVO?

for my second computer.

While yes, you can move a copy of Windows from one computer to another, it's not recommended, especially if the systems have majorly different specs (or AMD to Intel/Intel to AMD). A clean install is always recommended.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

The simplest method is to simply delete the partition (or partitions), create new ones, and format said partitions.

If reinstalling Windows, this is something you can do during the installation process.

And another note. You can only have one activated PC for single Windows key. If you try to activate second, you will get prompt saying key is already used. Or it will just auto-deactivate Windows on first PC.

If you run sysprep (C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Sysprep.exe), Windows will get prepared to get moved to a different machine. Next time it then boots, it'll run through some setup processes, just like the first time you power on a new computer, and it'll generate some new unique ID thingies to tell the different Windows instances apart, but you'll keep all your files and software. Though I suspect Windows will notice that the hardware has changed and change it's ID thingies regardless, after which the computers will act identically - at least if you're using a volume Windows license from the manufacturer, in which case, assuming they're the same brand, they'll both be activated. Probably.
