I just got my PC parts for a new build and when moving my corsair H115i around I can hear air bubbles in it, is this normal?

Some air bubbles are normal, it will settle out after a while since it just got installed.

hmmm I have just been away from the scene for too long, I am not sure what is normal. I was thinking I would have massively low temps with a Corsair H115i. I probably have room to move the VCore down, I has workers failing in prime 95 small fft with 1.275 vcore and I jumped it all the way to 1.3 (4.8GHz). I will keep playing with it and probably asking more questions, thanks for the responses!

also how hot is too hot for intel CPUs now a days? just try to keep it under 90C?

Which processor are you using? It's hard to tell what normal temps are when we don't know what are taking about.

sorry its a i7 8700k

Ah. I have no experience with this particular processor so I can't say for sure, but with the 7th gen processors, they had issues with the TIM inside the chip not making adequate contact, resulting in higher temps. As long as you stay under 85C you will be fine. It's important to remember tests like prime 95 are very unrealistic in the degree of stress they apply to your processor. You are not likely to ever put this kind of stress on your processor yourself.

I am just trying to go for a stable clock, if I was able to achieve a stable 5GHz overclock with decent VCore I would run with it but I think it is going to take a lot of testing which is okay. I have to head out to bed and I am currently running 4.5GHz with 1.275 Vcore in prime95 with small FFT to see if that is stable. I will let that run overnight and if everything looks good in the AM I will call that my base to start from. I am only seeing max 81C currently so this should be fine overnight.

Ill take any data points from people also running an i7 8700k with a H115i (their Vcore/frequency/temperatures)

Thanks everyone and have a good night!

You will probably have to raise your vcore. I have a completely different chip, and even within the same model each chip is different, but just for reference sake, my 7700k needs 1.41v to hit 5.1ghz. I can keep it under 1.4 by dropping it down to 4.9 @1.375v.

Also, to get 5ghz, you will probably need to use an AVX offset, as AVX instructions can generate more heat, causing you to hit your thermal ceiling before the silicon is tapped out
