Final checks for xmas upgrades

SUPER_MOOSE93

Having recently upgraded my GPU to a 1080ti from the MSI 970, i feel like my processor is lagging behind and causing frame rate issues (major drops when playing AC origins). unfortunately to upgrade my processor, i need to upgrade my motherboard and ram. I want to make sure that i will be getting good upgrades for the money it will cost, and that i am making good choices in parts.

Current Build

Planned Build

The new motherboard will be the ASUS Strix B350-F, replacing the MSI Z97M-G43. The only problem i know of in getting this board is the fact i will need a different mounting system for the cpu cooler (which i have already asked about and got a answer for), i really like the led options on the board as it will fit with the options on the 1080ti

The Ryzen 7 1700x will be replacing my i5-4690k. from what i have read the ryzen 7 is a great cpu and will compliment the 1080ti very well, it should easily be able to keep up with the gpu and stop the frame rate issues.

For the RAM i will be replacing 16gb (4x 4gb) of corsair vengeance ddr3-1600 with kingston hyperX fury 16gb (2x 8gb) ddr4-2133. i dont really know anything about ram, so i just picked a cheap but decent brand.

are these upgrade worth the money? if not, what other options are there?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

thanks to some input from QuantumBit i now have an intel i7 8700k Plan. I think the motherboards are basically the same

I have changed the ram to Gskill trident  16gb 3200 with snazzy RGB strips on top.

Well assuming this is for gaming an 8600k/ 8700k would be better. If you are going the AMD path, dont get a 1700x, get a 1700. Also do not get "slow" ram, at least 2800, 2666 if youre on a budget.

what makes the 8600k/8700k better for gaming?

if i get an intel cpu i would go for either the ASUS Z370-F or MSI Z370 motherboard.

how is this for ram? Gskill trident 16gb 2x 8gb ddr4 3200

Games prefer higher clockspeed/ipc, something Intel dominates at.

Either board works

Seems good. RGB isn't really necessary, and I'm not sure how much higher speed ram affects Coffee lake, but that kit should work exceptionally.
