Gpu puts out hdmi signal, but not dp

I have a gigabyte gigabyte gtx 1080 that puts out signal to my hdmi tv, but wont put a signal out to my display port monitor. It was working fine, but then I unhooked everything to redo the cables. in the process of doing so I did put the cpu power cable into the gpu (yes I'm a moron and yes it didn't go in easy). after this tho I hooked it all back up and it no longer puts a signal to the dp monitor (I had a two screen setup with hdmi tv as 2nd and dp as main screen). I went into GeForce and made sure all the drivers were up to date (even tho it was working previously). when I plug the dp into the gpu it takes the monitor out of standby, but it then goes back into standby saying there is no signal. any help would be appreciated.

How do you fit a power cord in a GPU? :) GTX1080 don't they have more than one dp, if so try those? Oh or are those mini dp's?

I think you can solve this by going into the windows display settings and change the dp monitor from "deactivate connection with this display" (or something like that) to "expand desktop to this display"

I crammed the cpu cable into it....but lets not dwell on stupidity at the moment. it has 3 dp ports, but none of them put out a signal.

I cant find it in the settings, but the problem is the gpu seems to not be detecting the monitor now. when I go into devices or display settings it just shows the hdmi tv. I cant access settings to the dp monitor.

So the monitor is not even showing up as a little grey box in settings? I meant this setting:

ya, its only showing the hdmi tv. its not showing the 2 displays (which is what is used to do when it was working). when I go in it says multiple displays with a detect button. when I click it, it doesn't detect it,

Have you tried a new cable, they do die occasionally.

System specs:

4790k

GTX 1050

16GB DDR3

Samsung evo SSD

a few HDD's
