Re-imported or refurb ThinkPad?

mapegl

So I am using a Thinpad Edge 330 atm and it is slowly dying. All kinds of stuff going wrong including the battery being wasted and for some reason it costs double than what an x series replacement battery costs.

Long story short: I am looking at ThinkPads that are refurbished or re-imported from a German retailer. x240s and x250s anywhere from 450 to 599 with 8 gb ram and an i3 or i5....i really don't care too much.

Is it a bad decision to get something that is basically unused, but old tech?

I could get the cheap x240 and buy a new battery for just over 500 bucks... sounds kinds good right?

I would personally get a cheap x240 and just do your upgrades. Or get a T430, spec it out and have the ability to use a XX20 series keyboard.

T models are kinda expensive here, but the x240 would be an i5, 8gb ram and a 240gb ssd.  Unfortunately it is a 1366x768 TN panel, but at 12.5" that is not too bad. Do you know if it is hard to replace the primary battery....just in case? I mean I want to replace the secondary battery with one of those bulky ones anyways, but just in case the internal one is just crap. There is a warranty on the laptop, but it does not apply the batteries.
