RHA Earbuds. HELP

14 hours ago, NinjaQuick said:

RHA are phenomenal. Their warranty is really, really, really good. I've broken 3, had 5. I thought I broke a pair, they sent a new pair, and turns out the jack on my phone was busted.

MA750 are worth every penny, and then some.

Would love to get em, but the ones I mentioned are half the price and I'm not even sure if the hook design of the MA750I's is compatible with my glasses. Plus my broke ass can't afford the MA750I's yet :P

RHA is good but i’d recommend getting chinese iems if you’re getting something under $200

KZ any good? I've heard great things about the KZ ZS5. Can't go for a VE Monk style earbud as I need a little isolation for the (albeit rather quiet) train journey to school

Ok, well, to be honest, the Piston Hybrids by Xiaomi are sufficient. I recommend them.

Kz is overrated! I hate them so much. I wanted to jump on the hype train. And yeah, they're pretty darn good for $10. But if you can scrape a few coins under the sofa, for the love of everything holy buy something better.

Most KZ IEMs with the exception of the ZSE and ED7 have boosted shrill sibilant treble, somewhat boosted bass and recessed mids. You get this "deep V-shaped sound" that makes everything sound tinny and hollow. This is the ZS5. It's absolutely dreadful. And everyone on the Head-fi KZ forum is trying their hardest to tame the murder treble on an otherwise good earphone.

Look I have a deep hatred towards V shaped earphones with harsh treble. I like my earphones warm and smooth. Not tinny and hollow.

I am the minority for not being a treble head.

My recommendation (in increasing price):

- KZ ED7 because they're dirt cheap and sound pretty darn good

- Marshall Mode because they're very affordable and sound warm and smooth

- KEF M100. These are my babies. They sound perfectly flat. Neutral. And they're so comfy.

The earphones I own have mediocre reviews because everyone wants a V shaped sound and when they get something else it's seen as a con.

I'd get the KEF's but a bit too much

I've heard about the KZ issue and that's why I'm a little skeptical. Just so y'all know, I've currently got a set of SR60E's and I adore them and their sound. Obviously I'm not gonna be bringing them onto a train, but still, I want their sound signature meaning- balanced sounds with sweet natural highs and not uncontrolled muddy bass

I often hear that Marshalls are bass heavy and this is from those who like their V Shaped sound, so I dunno...

I'm currently thinking of:

     -VE Monks+

     -RHA S500i

     -MEE Audio M6 Pro

     -Beyerdynamic Byron Wired

     -Sony EX650AP

-Or if I'm very lucky and can save up and am allowed to get them, the Etymotic MK5's

I know right? A bloody long list :P@xtroria I've heard of the Tazerface's (reference to Zeos) before and will probably try 'em. Not gonna lie, I kinda forgot about them :P but from what I remember, they're quite balanced and not as bass heavy as rivals. Thanks for the reminder. @NinjaQuick I've heard mixed opinions about the Pistons. And isn't there a new set called the Piston 3's? I dunno what quality would be like from a company who mostly make phones, plus it'll have ot be from Gearbest, so if it goes wrong... well from past experience, shipping back to a Chinese seller isn't the most fun in the world. I'll certainly check 'em out tho, thanks

I see you have RE 400i's, any good for portable use? I've heard that they're prone to breaking quickly

I own the MA750. And the Piston Hybrids. Get the piston hybrids off amazon, if you get duped by knock-offs just return. I'm assuming USA. There are lots of chinese ones coming out with dual-driver (dynamic and BA) designs, and for under 30, the pistons are one of the earlier ones and are really good, even if sold at double the price I would still recommend.

Yeah, you can rule the Marshall Mode off the list if you don't want boosted bass. I don't mind it as much.

Honestly, the KZ ED7 is probably worth it if you don't mind sparing $7. I also had the Grado SR60I. And the ED7 is not too far off. You just get less refined treble.

UK, ok. I guess it wouldn't hurt to give em a try, but which? Piston 3's?

Ah. The E series of Grados are a lot more refined and to be honest, after trying my dad's SR80i's my ears got almost sore and tired of the sound, so I dunno how I'd be able to cope with even more unrefined treble. Current state of play is:

S500i

MEE M6 Pro

EX 650 AP

Beyer Byron

I think unchanged since last time.

Focal Sphear. Check em out! They're a neutral pair of earphones and they're on sale on amazon.com right now for $90.

I can get it for £64 at my local audiophile shop, in UK by the way. Just a little bit too much for me to spend. Just wondering, are these more neutral/balanced or the MA750i? Cos those are £65 at the same shop right now.

I haven't tried either. But the Focal are known to be neutral and RHA has been doing more V-shaped earphones. But that's just what I gathered from reading online reviews.

Otherwise, it's really hard to get something neutral for less $. You'll typically get a V-shaped sound with aggressive treble or a dark, mellow sound with boosted bass and rolled off highs.

The Sony EX650 might be the one. But I read that it's more of a smooth and dark sound which might sound dull if you're coming from a Grado which is typically bright. So this is why I think that the Focal would be your best bet.

If the Sony's are anything like the MDR 1A, then I'll be buying them instantly. I know that Sony's have that sound signature and the MDR 1A's are no exception, but I weirdly tend to enjoy listening to them whenever I do, so the EX650AP's; should they have a similar sound signature; should be excellent. I've also heard of some earphones called the MEE M6 Pro's. They're supposed to have a very neutral sound, but boring bass. Apparently EQ'ing them can put some life into the sound. Will look into it more later. Etymotic MK5 interesting me right now, though a little over budget :P

Will do, seeing prices going up and down, so will wait for the common 10% off and may buy XB70AP's at the same time to see which I prefer cos I'd like to try out some bass buds, see if I like 'em. Anyway, thanks for all the help mate, really appreciate it :)
