Improving mobile network signal

greeatzy

Hello guys,

I hope I'm in the right place...

I asked this question on a popular Croatian forum but still no answer so I guess I'll give it a shot here.

So my brother moved with his girlfriend to a house where they have internet network from their ISP through telephone cable.

But their mobile signal in general in that area is awful... The mobile provider is Tele2 and they can't change it because they are on a contract for 2 years because the firm they are working for is paying them the mobile subscription.

My question is can we buy some kind of an antenna to mount it on his house and improve mobile reception in his house? The signal is bad in the house and outside the house.

Any answer will help.

Thanks

I have heard of some 4G signal boosters but I am not entirely sure if they are legal or not.

Legal or not in Croatia it's not a problem.. But I just wanna know where can we buy it like of ebay or something and is it difficult to put it up and set it up.

And of course will it work..

Is WiFi calling an option?

Can you explain wifi calling... like how does it work.

I'm in the US, so I'm not too sure how it applies over there, but here I can enable WiFi calling on my phone, and then whenever I'm connected to a WiFi network, all the traffic that would normally be sent over the cellular network is sent over WiFi

EDIT: after having a look on Apple's website, WiFi calling is not available in Croatia for iPhones.

I don't think that would work because the internet and mobile providers are different

It doesn't matter. For example, I have Verizon for cellular, and then Cox for internet in my home. My phone will connect to Verizon's network through the internet, so the internet provider is irrelevant. However, like I said, if you have an iPhone, WiFi calling is unavailable anyway.

I can't read Tele2's website, but if you google "Tele2 WiFi calling Croatia" it should come up, if it's even available. If not, I would give them a call and ask if they sell MicroCells, which are like boosters

Devices like the WeBoost exist, but those are for US frequencies. You do have cheap(not cheap) Chinese cell boosters on eBay though but you need to check if that works in your area. But these easily cost $150-200.

If you just use the connection for mobile data however, you could get a LTE Router(often referred to as MiFi) with an external SDB Antenna connection, then connect to the Wifi hotspot of the LTE modem.

Watch out that the SDB connector on the device is for the LTE connection, NOT for the Wifi hotspot.

the main reason is they cant even get calls through sometimes

No such thing as US Frequencies. Really comes down to what Frequencies the OP's cellular provider use. How do you think people take their cellphones on vacation out of the country? Most countries use the same frequencies, its just about finding the device that supports the frequencies the company you want to go with uses. The only issue the OP might have is find a device that has been tested and approved by the Croatian equivalent of the FCC.

Some providers here in the US give you a mini cell site that connects to your home internet if WiFi calling does not work. It effectively plug in to you router and broadcasts the frequencies you provider uses. Just at a much lower power level than what they use on a cell tower.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Called them and their freq. is 1800MHz

asked them if is it okay for me to buy a booster and they said no problem.
