This is a rant on monitor resolution.

For years, monitor makers have been saying that they cant put a 2560 by 1440/1600p panel on anything smaller than a 27" monitor. Now we have Dell coming out with a 24' 4x monitor. The ASUS Transformer Pad (TF701T) has a 10.1" ips 2560 by 1600 panel and a thin light tablet convertible. We could easily have a 1440/1600p 23" ips high quality monitor. But we don't, instead we have 1080p. To find out why just follow the money. Monitor makers can charge more for larger screens of the same resolution therefore a smaller 1440p monitor would cost less meaning less profit for the manufacturer. I believe this is the reason we don't have 23" 1440p screens, which I would love as this allows me to have 1080p video preview without going full screen (I am a video editor so this would be useful) While still have all of my monitors the same size so it all fits on my desk.

Sorry for the rant I just had to say this.

I can't wait for the discussion to follow.

Thanks for reading.

For future reference this should go in off topic.

My mistake, if you can get a mod to move it.

Your points are exactly the reason as to why they dont make them.

I think so too. Unfortunately I don't think we will ever see them.

That hasn't stopped apple, they charge more for the same sized monitor with a higher res. and the PC world will do the same but the manufactures will have to tag the monitor some way to designate the difference as otherwise people will get ripped off thinking they got the higher res. when they didn't.

This is one reason people need a validation method once these 4K monitors come out or some company can just sell a high quality not 4K monitor as such.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

Why is it off topic when it's tech related?

Why is it off topic when it's tech related?

Because even off topic is a misnomer and usually tech related. It would fall into monitors/peripherals if it were a concise and directed discussion.

Despite it being a rant it would most likely be passable in that section, but off topic isn't a bad place to default to. You could make an argument that it's fine in general, but then what would be the point of specific sub-forums.
