Looking to get a new monitor I'm set on wide screen curved monitors no bigger than 27 inches. I have a gtx 1060 6gb and an i5 6600. I definitely need a monitor upgrade for gaming I'm currently using a crappy acer one. Im not looking for 4k yet but want to do either 1080 or the ultra hd. I'm not Sure what bottlenecking I will run into adding such a large monitor. My thoughts are selling my mobo and chip and gpu. Then converting to Ryzen and getting a better gpu. Just not sure what you guys reccomend. Hate my monitor but don't want to waste money if I cant handle it. I mainly game and dont do any editing but it is also my homework station. My budget is about a 1000 dollars for a full system upgrade but I would of course love to spend less. As far as the monitor maybe like 500 or less.

This is the potato monitor I have right now https://pcpartpicker.com/product/jCYXsY/acer-monitor-etws0hpa01

negative, for the monitor about 500 if im going to swap to amd etc.. then yes about a 1000 but that dosnt include the cost offset from selling my old parts.

Well there ya go to start, possible spend more on the motherboard for an ASUS PRIME PRO X370 board, otherwise slap a fan on the VRM when you overclock

Includes a 1080p 75Hz IPS display, so RX 580

Thanks soo much for taking the time to part pick for me :) are you implying the switch to ryzen and an amd gpu is worth it?

You can't get adaptive sync with an nvidia GPU at that price point for the monitor. Some people can't live without it, and if it's that cheap with AMD you might as well go for it. Plus I'd say the 580 8GB is an overall better choice than the 1060 6GB. Bit of extra VRAM is nice.

You can also find a 1080p 144hz VA free-sync display from Pixio for $250

Ryzen is just great for the money. Will be around 100fps in AAA games vs 120+ fps for Coffee Lake for a basic comparison.

There's some Ryzen scaling benchmarks, for gaming you don't really need the R7 chips

thats really what I was noticing the free sync amd ones where like 200 dollars cheaper or more for a monitor

The funny thing is nvidia already basically uses free-sync in their laptops but whatever, they might care about freedom someday.
