I’m installing windows 10 on a new build from a USB. When the installation gets to copying windows files section every time I get a BSOD with the error IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL.

i tried re seating the memory

ive run memtest and got no error

not sure what to do...

my system specs

intel i5 8600k

GTX 1070

rm550x psu

asus prime z370-a motherboard

kingston hyper x fury 16GB 2133 (2x8)

i also dont don’t know how to get a dump file as I obviously can’t access windows.

If memory doesn't seem to be causing any issues, try using an install DVD rather than a USB.

go into bios and reset to optimized defaults, only change settings as needed (like nvme/sata) if that doesn't get you through it you might have to remove the cpu and make sure there's no problems with the socket

I haven’t changed any settings and I don’t think the socket is the problem. I had a good look when I was installing it?

oh, make sure multicore enhancement isn't turned on by default, does some auto overclocking and might be causing your problem

Only thing I have left is checking power plug seating and removing the gpu to see if it's a power issue

Not at home anymore but I’ll give it a try when I get back... 550 Watts should be enough for this system though?

should be, could be a sloppy unit that got through QA or a loose connection

if u didnt change any settings that means u didnt set ur ram timings to the proper spd ratings either, it could pass memtest but still be unstable :) , u should set them to their rated spd timings

some bios have the info of showing the spd timing table in the bios

however if u dont have that u can check ur ram kit timings on product number

also if ur mobo supports XMP profile , picking a xmp profile will automaticly set the ram timings, make sure if it overclocks ur cpu to set it back to stock ( cpu only )

I’ve tried all this and I finally got windows installed but keep getting blue screens... I’m redownloading a new windows installation to see if it changes anything.... got to play pubg on ultra for about 20 mins and then blue screen, can’t wait to fix this
