Hey. My PC has been blue screening lately with memory related codes so I did a memtest earlier today and I got 31k errors in 1 pass. This was over my entire set of 12GB. Is it safe to assume it's pretty much dead? Test 7 had 15k errors alone while Test 1 had 0. I'm upgrading to Coffee Lake at Christmas anyways so it doesn't really matter but I was hoping I could use my old machine as a storage server but if the memory is boned then there's no chance.

CPU: Intel Core i7 8700

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070

MOBO: ASUS Z370-F STRIX

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2133MHz

make sure the timings are set to their proper spd ratings

also if u use 4sticks u might need to overvolt ur mem controller abit

also dont continue using the pc with unstable ram, it is a ticket to file corruption ( blew up many os'es while doing extreme tweaking on ram, somtimes 5x in arow xD )

clear CMOS and try again first off

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

The timings have been their defaults ever since I installed them. I've had no issues for 2.5 years. Also I'm not using the PC anymore as it's very unstable at the moment

Don't see how that would do anything seen as the settings are optimised defaults and have been like that for nearly 3 years with no issues.

could still fix something in the BIOS that has gone and broked itself, doubt it will help but it could. one of your RAM sticks or your memory controller has probably gone bad though

No settings have been tweaked  as I don't mess with that stuff. I also doubt it's just 1 stick that's gone bad seen as 9/10 of the new tests on memtest86 had a large error count. I don't really care to be honest, I'm buying Coffee Lake soon so I need new ram anyways

Don't really have the time or effort to find out. Also one quick question. Is it normal for a RAM stick, presumably faulty, to prevent the system from even powering on? I was having replacing my power supply a couple months ago and when I had this one memory stick in,

the computer would turn on (LEDs and stuff) but would turn off instantly.

Posting is one thing, the computer wouldn't even stay powered on for a second with that stick in.

could have failed in a way that it passed far enough to power on, but not enough to get it to POST. havent seen it myself though but RAM is fiddely and pretty random in its behavior

Forgot to mention that in order for it to power on again, I had to turn the power supply off and back on again. Removing that stick fixed it though

id honestly just blame the RAM stick for failing in a strange way tbh
