Hi,

im planning  on setting up a rackmounted NAS (got a rackmounted chassis already) running FreeNas which is responsible for storing backups of the mail Fileserver.

Choosing a motherboard I found myself stuck with a rather unusual choice xD

All that mathers for the motherboard is this:

  • 1151 Socket (going to use a i3-7100 in there, maybe a Pentium G4600)
  • 8x SATA3 connectors
  • ECC memory support

At first I thought about grabbing just the right board from Supermicro and call it a day but I found an Asus Board that matches my specs too.

Costwise they are on par at my supplier. Can anyone tell me something about Asus's workstation/server "stuff"?

I know that Supermicro makes really good boards but all I know Asus Boards for is their ROG for gaming xD

Hi,

Asus's workstation/server boards are very stable, I've had one for 4 years already and it's still working nicely (the Z9NA-D6).

I would take the P10S for it's layout which is better in a rackmounted chassis.

Otherwise, you'll be likely getting the same build quality and functionnality.
