Need build feedback

Sushibagel

Hi All, I'm trying to put together a build for my father in law and looking for some input on the build. He's going to be using it for some light video editing and your typical workstation type stuff no gaming. Budget is ~$1200 US depending on black Friday prices I will probably upgrade the HDD to 2 TB

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

a pair of team dark 3000mhz 16gb ram costs $140, get that and a cheaper board and use the money for a 1080.

Thanks. Would a 1080 be worth it in this build though?

And Intel i5 over AMD Ryzen 5? I figured the extra threads would be more valuable?

didn't realise it was for editing :P depends on which apps, some perform better on the i5 and others perform better on the 1600. I'd get an i7 8700/ryzen 1700 and a Vega 56 for a workstation.

What.

Here, you're spending far too much on the GPU when it won't matter much, what video editing software? What other software does it need to run? Unless it really makes use of a GPU any half decent GPU should be fine.

Should spend that money on a 4k IPS display or something

Also this one's a small ITX system.

Thanks! Hadn't really considered going ITX, he has a Disk Drive from an old system he wanted to include so this would be nice since it looks like that will fit (I forgot to take that into consideration on the original build).

He has a fairly new display so the display wouldn't be necessary. I'm thinking we can go with a slightly better on the GPU and increase the size for both hard drives for more capacity.

Thoughts?

Pricing on the WD 2TB appears to be broken though, you may want to consider a 2TB Firecuda drive as they come with a small SSD onboard for acceleration. should be $99.

But ya if you want a slightly better GPU go for it. too bad RX 570 pricing still sucks, if you see one for $199 or under pounce on it. Although...is his display 4k IPS? If nothing else you could add a 2nd 1080p IPS display for around $100 for better productivity, or full sized previews.

The Core 500 has pretty good after market heatsink support as well. 170mm tall Air Coolers and 240mm AIO support.

R7 1700 build is a good pc. The r5 and 1070ti one was unbalanced.
