*OLD SCHOOL* 16Bit ISA card in 8Bit ISA slot?

TDP_Equinox

I've got an old school question here... I've got a 16 bit ISA memory expansion, and my machine only has 8 bit ISA slots.

Can I cut the end of the slot to allow the new card to physically fit and expect it to work; like you (mostly) can with PCIE?

This is my interpretation from looking at good old google. It appears to depend on whether the card was designed to be compatible with 8 bit as well as 16 bit. If it wasn't it likely won't work, if it was, it will work but just at 8 bit transfer speeds.
