Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of upgrading to either Skylake or Coffee Lake and will be running a GTX 780 and was wondering if either one would bottleneck the other.

Either an i3-8100 or 6100. Mostly gaming, between 720p and 1080p. Probably medium to high settings, Minecraft, Bioshock, Goat Simulator, and a few others

Okay the 8100 is about 50 percent faster than the 6100 for one. Besides that, the 8100 seems like a good pairing with the 780.

So I wouldn't see a bottleneck either way?

Maybe a bit with the 6100 in CPU intensive games.

But not with the 8100?

The 6100 is a dual core HT, the 8100 is a quad core, basically a rebadged Kaby i5. No bottleneck there. The 780 isn't a magical card anymore. It's midrange these days, performance wise between the GTX960 and 970 (so roughly 1050/1050Ti ish).

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro
