Xeon e3 1230v3 or 4670?

Go to solution Solved by TechFan@ic,

are you sure?

Click on CPU support, Ctrl+F 1230, you'll find the chip, it's supported from BIOS version 1004 onwards.

If the board arrives with an older BIOS version you simply use BIOS Flashback, i.e. a flash stick with the bios file installed on it and update the board.

I'm building a new pc for gaming and editing and i want to know wich one to go for. I would really like to go with the xeon but I'm afraid it won't work with the motherboard I'm using: Asus h87m-pro. I was thinking about the 4670 as a replacement. What do you think?

There is no reason to buy the 4670l the xeon is soooo much better

The Xeon will be faster and it is compatible with that board.

I don't think they are, I'd save some and get the Core i5-4670

The Xeon's just support ECC memory and are higher binned but as for performance they are the same as their non-enterprise counterparts, the 1230 will be more powerful due to the hyperthreading but the Core i5 is cheaper

It'll work with any 1150 mobo as far as I know.
