Maximus hero X vs Prime 370-E

Im having trouble deciding between the two mobos does anyone have any pro tips to help decide? Im using the pc for gaming the plan is

i7 8700k

16gbs of corsair dominator platinum 3200

Asus gtx 1080 ti posieden 

1000 corsair psu 

And a custom liquid cooling loop with a single 3x120 rad and cpu block from xspc

Western digital m.2 and black hdd

But which mobo is more suited for 4k gaming and light content creation??

I'd say the Maximus hero X, but I don't own one my self.

This memory is not worth its price tag, people have been mocking Corsair about it for a while already, consider G.Skill Trident Z, not only it looks better it has been giving better results all around.

I personally just ordered a Strix 370E, and there is nothing that the Hero has over this and I would want. I also just built a PC with a Z270F. For myself I just Went with the E over the F for the USB 3.1 Gen 2 header on the motherboard and some small advantages like wi-fi. 

 

I could recommend you to go with the Strix Z370E. Hero makes sense ONLY if you plan on some rather hard Overclocking the CPU, but then you will 100% have to delid your 8700k because they come with the same toothpaste instead of thermal compound between the chip and IHS.

 

So basically if you do not plan on delidding the cpu, even a custom waterloop won't do any good.

 

Then again, for "gaming and light content creation" even if its 4k or 1440p/1080p the motherboard will help you gain like 5-10 fps maybe less from the cpu overclock and that's about it. So you woulb be good enough with a under 200$ motherboard also, But I prefer to go overkill too so I could not recommend you that route

@tyem VRM's wise the Strix Z370E has the same built it quality as the Maximus X so overclocking is fairly equal between the two, then again the thing that matters less for gaming end performance is the motherboard even a TUF could run an i7 8700k at 4.8ghz all cores and be by all means sufficient to drive the 1080 Ti

I know, I just said that's what people use  to be sure they will have the most success at overclocking, For me honestly Z370E has everything I would want from a motherboard and more, here is like 250 for the Z370E and 300 for the Hero (prices in euros) so it's not a big difference but I see no point in getting the Hero, for me at least.

Currently I have a z170 maximus hero with an i7 7700k with 8gb corsair dominator platinum 3866 mhz with a liquid coolong loop from xspc and i am amazed how well it performs spectacularly but i guess im not seeing any really performance benefits with the extra 70+ dollar price tag for the maximus
