Hey guys, I'm having really bad temperature issues with my build (specs in signature).

I've got my fans setup for positive airflow; i've got my radiator in the front with two 140's intaking, a 140 intake at the back and 3 120 exhausts at the top... But my temperatures seems pretty crappy..

I'm seeing up to 85 degrees and getting warnings from NZXT Cam about my temperatures (this was under 100% load playing AC Origins) and at that point, I can feel the side panels and even the tempered glass getting very hot. I've got a great CPU cooler and great fans, even with all my overclocks off I'm getting issues..

What's the problem? Are my fans just setup terribly, did I get a weird CPU? Picture below so you can see.

Might be a problem with the pump, you definitely have plenty of airflow and as long as all the fans are running properly and at a decent speed then I don't see what else could be the issue.

Admittedly, the first X62 I picked up was completely dead, I had to refund it. I find it hard to believe I'd get 2 faulty units in a row... It's odd.

I'm wondering if this is just normal for a 8700K. If it is, I'm returning it for sure, and I'll pick up a delidded one from Overclockers... 80C while gaming on water? No thanks, it'll be dead in a year..

Two duds in a row is definitely odd but it happens. I'd recommend you look around and do some research on what other people have got because it is a 6-core that you're pushing to 5GHz but it definitely shouldn't be that toasty at stock speeds.

Yeah, did you hear about the kaby lake temp issues, coffee lake has all that plus 2 cores. I wouldn't say 85C on a 8700k OC'd to 5 ghz is unusual unless it was delidded or with a 280mm+ AIO

maybe try it again, maybe reinstall CAM, because sometimes it gets all weird. Try a different monitoring software to

I'm sure if people can run graphics cards mining at 90C+ for 24/7 for literally months at a time and it's fine, and server farms can run their CPU's 24/7 for years and it's not an issue, I don't think you running Assassins Creed for a few hours a week at 80C is going to do much harm. You're panicking over absolutely nothing.

You're running it at 1.3V+ at 5GHz without a delid, I don't know what you expected, should have done more research. High overclocks out of K series processors have near-enough required a delid since Ivy Bridge, unless you got very lucky and can do it at low voltages. They just run hot, nothing is broken, Intel's shit TIM is to blame.

I mean, the 6700K I had before never even went over 70, that was with the same voltage at 4.9GHZ. No delid, and a smaller CPU cooler with less airflow..

I assumed after the pressure of Ryzen intel would make some attempt to lower temperatures, I thought Kabylake was a simple mistake.. guess not.

6700K + 50% more cores = more heat.

If you thought Intel was going to spend an extra 2 cents per CPU on solder instead of TIM just because of Ryzen you're right to be just as disappointed as I was.

There must be some ridiculous thing we don't see.. Intel is hardly an idiotic company, they've dominated the market for years, but why on earth would they not spend 2 cents more per chip for massively lower temps?
It pays for itself; many, many more people would consider Intel if they didn't have to deal with the BS temps.. If Zen 2 was out, I'd return my 8700K for a new 8-Core Zen
