Good combo?

Are the gtx 1060 3gb and Amd Ryzen 5 1500x good enough to game with

I would try and get a 1060 6gb, and maybe downgrade the CPU if you are mainly interested in gaming.

i would go for the 6gb and mybe upgrade to 1600

The GTX 1060 3 GB is a good GPU, just keep in mind that anything past 1080P won't be possible due to the lack of VRAM for higher definition. If possible get a 6 GB but don't get a 1050 Ti for a better CPU. The 1500X should be more than enough, just make sure not to downgrade to a 1400 since it has half the cache and a worse cooler

I won’t be playing anything higher than 1080p, but what happens if you play lower than that?

720p should have super smooth performance, if that's what you're asking. 1060 3 GB can more than handle 1080p, on 720p it will last you a long time. Still, I'd recommend the 1500X over the 1400 for any use case
