Wait For Icelake Or Get Coffeelake?

As of now I have a I5 4690K, is upgrading from this I5 to the I5 8600k worth it or should i wait? How high of a performance boost would i get? And one last question, when do you guys think a CPU upgrade is justified? As in how much of a percentage boost would you need for a new cpu to be considered upgrading?

6400k? 6000 series is Skylake, and there is no 6400k CPU man.

If you mean 8400...it should be a decent upgrade, but I would go for 8600k, so you can OC.

Considering it's a motherboard, RAM and CPU upgrade for you, personally, I'd wait. I'm still running my 4770k (although, its overclocked to 4.5) and it does just fine for me. I'm waiting for Icelake because I mainly only play games and browse the interwebs.

If its less than a 30% IPC upgrade it would have to be based on upgrading to the newer platform, not the CPU performance itself.

Best thing you can do? Get a 4790k ;) and reuse all the other parts.

Gotcha :) Still 4790k is the best option IMHO

wait for Ice lake, and when that comes out, wait for Tiger Lake, once thats out, make sure to wait for Sapphire Rapids.

but make sure to keep an eye on Zen+ and Zen3 as well

just fucking get it or you'll wait around forever always looking at the next best thing instead of enjoying what you have.

There is definitely a benefit to waiting for the next generation as there will be a die shrink and probably a big jump in performance. So its whether you need the upgrade right now. If not wait if the upgrade is going to make a huge difference in your experience then get the 8600k.
