If there is no issue or whats there works don't update the bios. Either just try running the .exe and see what happens (I would do that) or have a look in the manual, if you didn't get the update off the motherboard support page then don't run it as it will probably be a trojan.

If you got the update from Dells website and have windows installed, then just boot in to windows and run the exe. If not, you will have to do one of the options in the link, @fixitnow just posted above.

Is it for your version of windows? and have you tried running as admin? one last thing to try is to re-download it.

no it was for windows 7 however it is bios so should it matter

As long as that HDD is in that machine I don't see why not. Make sure that the application is 32 bit if you have 32 bit windows and 64bit for 64bit windows first.

Do that, then do what it says in section 6 in the below link

As you don't have to boot in to windows to do it.

my x5670 is not working in my dell 435mt motherboard even after updating the bios, I don't know what to do plz help.

Were you using a legitimate BIOS update from Dell, or trying to use one from a 3rd party?

double check to make sure the socket pins aren't bent. Was the machine working before you put this xeon in it?

my i7 920 works in it fine
