I have an AMD A-10 5800k with a Radeon R9 390 and 8 gigs of ram in my system. Im really wanting to buy an HTC Vive and play Onward VR, and VR chat will my pc be able to run them?

You'd need a CPU upgrade to do VR stuff, your GPU is good enough

what's your budget? Probably want like an R5 1400 minimum

Well I was thinking I was going to upgrade to a 7600k or a 7700k on cyber Monday. I just want to use the Vive until then.

With Coffee Lake and Ryzen available, please heed @Streetguru's advice an don't buy a Kaby Lake CPU. It would only be worth it if you already have a motherboard for it and find an extremely, extremely good deal on the processor.

an 8700K is your entire budget by itself....

Get an R5 1600, with this B350 motherboard you'll need to stick a fan on the VRM when you overclock it to like 3800, which is easy at 1.35V or lower depending on your chip.

RAM prices are still stupid and will likely remain that way, but ya, Ryzen is great for the money, go that route.
