Alright so my boss has some shitty old computers that aren't up to par. So I have the wonderful privilege of building a new pc for him. I just want some advice on picking the parts for it to see what other people could come up with.

The machine is really only going to be used for Microsoft applications and surfing the web. the budget is 500-600. If anyone could chime in with the parts they would choose and where you would prefer to buy the components I would greatly appreciate it. I don't think we'd really need a GPU but if there's something cheap out there that will still fit in that budget feel free to throw it in. (we've got windows 10 for os already so that's covered) (we've got a mechanical hard drive and ssd so we're good on storage too)

  1. Motherboard
  2. cpu
  3. ram
  4. power supply
  5. pc case

I think a newer Core i5 or Core i3 would be fine, maybe 8Gb memory, a H or B-series Intel board(I doubt he'd be overclocking), and probably a Diablotek Diamond Mid-tower case+400W psu should be enough...

Pre-builts are a better value for an Office and Web machine.

That's kind of what I had in mind and it set me at about that price point but I'm debating whether he should just by a prebuilt.

Yeah, he'd probably be better off with a prebuilt.

Pre-builts make sense if one needs o/s licenses or support and maintenance contracts. Otherwise, DIY works.
