Hi, I just finished building my first computer (4770k, Asus Maximus VI Formula, G Skill Trident X) and everything is working great on startup. However, when I enter the BIOS it only recognizes one stick of RAM (only 4gb, versus the dual channel 8gb). I have not updated the bios or downloaded an OS yet, so is this a problem with software, the motherboard, or the RAM? I double checked, the RAM is seated properly and in the correct slots.

Update BIOS and then if it still only detects one stick switch out the sticks to see if it is the RAM that is dead but if it works the slot might be dead.

As he said, try each module on their own to check if one is DOA and update the BIOS to see if it helps.

updating the UEFI will do nothing for RAM recognition. make sure the DIMMS are fully seated.

verify that you have both placed in the RED slots. next in the UEFI (in ADVANCED MODE)

scroll down to GPU-DIMM Post, here you'll find the PCIe/DIMM slot assignments. if there

is only one module recognized, exit and power down system. switch modules in slots and

reverify. if the empty now is occupied and the occupied is now empty, will be time to do

a MEMTEST86 (if found). or contact memory manufacturer and ask for technical advise.
