Google Maps Stuttering - Chrome on PC

Google Maps is stuttering when panning around, in satellite and normal map views. Looking at task manager my CPU spikes to 100% usage very quickly, then goes down again.

 

Literally no other applications open except Google Chrome. Two tabs open.

 

Update - Little to no stuttering when using Google Maps in Edge.

chrome has been horribly optimized recently

 

sometimes with the same tabs open, edge has lower CPU and memory usage....I hate to admit it, but edge is a HUGE improvement on a browser....
