does any1 have experience with steam in home streaming using an older pc? thinking about putting a core 2 duo e8400 with 4gb ram and a 710gt downstairs so my family can play games on my gaming rig

also if it runs smooth, is it possible that they just use my gaming rig for rendering or does the game go fullscreen on my monitor no matter what? , id like to be able to do my own stuff while they can play their steam games and im limited to 1 gaming rig atm

the idea is to just put an old rig downstairs , install steam > in home streaming from my gaming rig > connect controller to that pc > let them play assasins creed origins for example / gta v   and then IF possible, do some stuff on my own on the gaming rig aswell ;v

I used a crappy 2010 macbook with a core 2 duo iGpu and like 2gbs of ram. As long as its through ethernet it should be fine. I used wireless and it was pretty bad but quality was on par with a high bitrate stream. Make sure its wired other than that specs shouldn't matter to much

I have never got steam in-home working, but had pretty bad experience using moonlight with my old HP folio laptop (i3 dual core 1.4GHz, 8GB DDR3 + SSD).

But it works fine off my phone.

no. in theory its possible but hard. I wouldnt try it, your machine does render and encode and it plays the game on your pc and streams it so it might be hard

i wanna try it anyway because it would be insane useful for me, :) do u know if audio only gets transferred from the game itself or the entire pc while streaming? :)

the gaming rig has high enough specs to run 2 games at the same time :D

i beleive audio is transfered, but from entire pc. you can prolly configure it to go to streaming speakers or headphones.

I wouldn't suggest phone. Cheap pc from craigslist will hold up much longer and you can always upgrade it for a family member to have a dedicated gaming station

Streaming the same game, to my old i3 laptop was worse than streaming to my oneplus 3.

Not sure why, maybe it was the chrome version of moonlight. IDK. But having said that, my phone has 2x 2.somehting GHz cores and 2x 1.6GHz cores (snapdragon 820) and 6GB LPDDR4.. The laptop had 2x1.4GHz and DDR3.

yeah the thing is its for my stepdad he isnt much of a gamer, hes just a temporary gamer coz hes ankle broke

just wanna get him a temporary setup , he loves assasins creed on my ps4 but he basicly played through the games he likes already now xD so i wanna let him play from my gaming rig , assasins creed origins/gta 5 and what not

also  gonna use a core 2 duo 2ghz laptop instead then with 3gb ram and a 9600m gs ( should be enough i suppose ;v )

would u mind testing for me if u can stream the game to the other device and then play a game ( even if its an emulator ) on the encoding rig? :) would be awesome if u can test that for me, would save me alot of trouble ^^

I wouldn't buy a phone specially, but if you have a decent phone use it.

Yeah you should be fine. Although I never managed to get the video part of in-home streaming working. Only remote input....

I know my phone sounds fancy, but it cost half an iphone 6s/s7 edge back when I bought it and has other things that are not so good...
