I am buying new RAM since my last kit was defective. My original kit was a 2x4GB, but Kingston agreed that they would send me a 1x8GB kit to replace my defective. Would it be better to buy another stick of the 1x8GB RAM from Kingston, or sell the replacement and buy this Corsair kit because of its OC ability (XMP profile) and higher MHz. I do have a 4690K and a Z97-A motherboard, if that changes anything.

The Corsair kit would run in dual-channel which I've heard is better than single-channel.

 

Overall, I prefer Corsair memory to others so I would say get that

Do two separate 1x8GB sticks not run in dual channel? I am confused.

I think if they're identical sticks then they run in dual channel. I might've misread your OP

Do you need 16GB of RAM?

If so, yes.

If you don't notice any huge issues with 8GB, then I wouldn't.
