Hi All,

I have a problem with my cpu, I can currently OC my ryze 1600 to 3.8 ghz at 3.5000 volt ( sorry if I get my numbers wrong I am new at this). I cant push the cpu at 3.9 or to 4 ghz as if I push it at those clock speeds I currently my pc wont boot at all, it doesnt even post up. I have a B350M mortar and its led sign says VGA. so atm I have no clue what is going why I cant seem to push it higher. ( I am using a Bequite dark rock slim cooler) if this help thanks.

My full PC setup is

Ryzen 1600

msi b350m MORTAR

Crucial DDR4 ram 2400mhz

Corsar VS650W PSU

zotac GTX 1080 AMP extreme

3,5 volt? I'm pretty sure you can't even make that setting xD

Maybe 1,35V ?

And it sounds like you just got bad chip like me. I can't get above 3,825GHz even with 1,425V.

3.5V? Even single AA battery doesn't have such voltage.

The Pure Rock Slim is somewhat weak and the motherboard is not an miracle either.

3.9GHz might need like 1.375-1.4V, depends on the chip.

When you dont know what you're doing, you should stay away from OC

Tbh here the reason you cant push the cpu any further is because its being held back by that of your motherboard, the x370 series allows you to input more voltage at a smoother rate and maintain it while b350 is a bit behind. As for the boot you need to clear the bios and refresh it as it will help to get everything back to normal, input the cpu at 3.8ghz, and if the cpu cooler is stock you might be seeing why its being held back a little bit also by the cooler too.

Yep normal even on water that may not be achievable mine is at 3.85 on air and that's as far as I want to go with the increased thermals

The 1600 is the lowest in the 6 core range and generally do less well than the higher ones. 3.8 isn't bad for 1.35v. Do note if you were to try higher, you'd need ever more voltage, and heat will keep getting worse. Personally I run 3.6 under 1.25v on my 1600 and 1700 as the performance difference isn't much, but it helps reduce power consumption a fair amount. I have got my 1700 to 4 GHz, just, but it required a seriously unhealthy voltage level. I tested beyond 1.45v settings - don't do this if you care about long life! I only did that long enough for some benchmarks before reducing it.

What would you guys recommend. I only bought the cpu and motherboard recently from amazon and can still return it, I want to run games at 4k such as destiny 2 and want my moneys worth. Would you guys recommend me getting the 8th gen I5 from intel and pay a bit more for the motherboard?
