So I haven’t built a computer in going on about 16 years since my sophomore year in high school, and now it’s time to upgrade from my still very reliable but definitely dated Inspiron 660. I’ve decided to build my next system rather than get another pre built.  Below is what I think I’ve settled on, but I’d like to get some thoughts on the parts I’ve selected, and see if maybe there is something I missed or may work better. Budget is sub $1100(USD)

Will be doing some moderate gaming, definite video streaming, and I have 3 monitors.

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor

Motherboard: MSI - B350M MORTAR ARCTIC Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard

Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory

Storage: Kingston - A400 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: EVGA - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC GAMING ACX 3.0 Black Edition Video Card

Case: Phanteks - ECLIPSE P400 ATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply: SeaSonic - EVO Edition 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Total: $1087.74

What will you do with the PC? The motherboard is not very good, and the PSU is old and very mediocre. Try to get a larger SSD, around 250GB. The TG version of hte case shouldn't cost much more than the non TG version, if you want that

Can you expound on why the motherboard isn’t very good? Also, I only plan to store then OS in the SSD, so to me (possibly ignorantly so) it seems the rest of the space would go to waste. Is there a benefit to having more space on the SSD?

You could store your most played games on the SSD allowing for faster load times. The SSD will not improve in game preformance so unless you plan on using software such as Photoshop etc. a larger SSD will not be needed.

That looks pretty good. Are there any significant advantages of that system over the one I posted?

(Not trying to be contrary or argumentative just trying to be more informed)

The VRMs and VRm heatsinks are pretty bad. It should be fine, as long as you don't get a watercooler or high end air cooler. You can easily fit more than just hte OS on a 120GB SSD. A few games, but it'll feel a little small. Higher capacity SSDs are technically faster, but it's not noticable.

:)
